Two full weeks with the kiddos!

School Holidays are upon us! Whether you love it or hate it, there are bound to be some good moments in there. My lot woke up at a reasonable time today- and they decided to make tents outside!

We also manged to do a bit of gardening and painting- working in the garden always leaves you feeling very tired, but quite satisfied (an abundance of onion weed died this weekend- even though I think they are very pretty).
A lovely bird feeder that attracts Rosella's and my cats!

Pretty red TROPICAL plant- I live in the mountains! BRRRR (the sales lady persuaded me to give it a whirl)

My lovely pot filled with juicy succulents!

The view from my window.....lots more to do but getting there

I have a BIG market/ music festival coming up in the next few weeks- one that requires me to pull it out of the bag. And coming out of the bag are these pendants:

My cute owl on the back.

The pendant is broken pottery washed up on the shores of the beach- pottery that has fallen overboard or been in shipwrecks and they have been naturally tumbled by the ocean. I love the faded prints and the feeling of it having a 'past"- It actually belonged to someone else once. This particular one has been picked up off the shores of Scotland.

I have also been playing around with these:
excuse the lighting:)

I've also decided my making hands need a holiday to here:
Ahhhh, the Maldives

I will have to chaperone them of course.

Oils aint oils

I have discovered Olive Oil!......in your beauty routine of course.

Last week I had a face thingy that left me looking like the elephant man on a good day. I'm looking a little less trunkish this week, thankfully.

I needed to use something that would help moisturise but was completely chemical free.....so I started searching the internet.

BEHOLD: Olive Oil!

The properties of Extra Virgin olive oil are very similar to that of your skin so it is used in lip balm, shampoo, bath oils, hand lotions, soap, soak for nails, massage oil, dandruff treatment, etc. The following are recipes you can make to help you not look like an elephant.

Exfoliater (this one is great)
Wet face thoroughly, then massage olive oil into your skin. Use about a half a teaspoon of sugar and scrub your face with that, then wipe off gently with a warm, wet cloth until the sugar is all gone. You use this recipe on your hands to leave your hands feeling smooth.

To help with wrinkles
Twice a week smear the face with a blend of equal parts olive oil and lemon juice.

(Note to reader: I am not a fan of the word smear)

A face mask
Mix 1/2 tbsp. olive oil, 1/2 tbsp. water and 1 tbsp. clay.
Apply this mixture with a brush, sit back and relax.
Once the masque is dry, rinse it off with warm water.
Use a light moisturiser after. (or olive oil)

You can get some great clay at Auroma.

Olive oil also can be used for haircare....google it!

And it's great in a salad too! Why not pamper yourself whilst you cook?

Of course, if I used olive oil on my face when I was 15, I probably would have become a giant pimple and exploded....all in moderation :)

In other news I've discovered.......drum roll please:
Yep.

I am woman, hear me SNORE!

As I mentioned last post, my health has gone down the poo pipes (which have been fixed by Mr Owl). I won't get into the nasty details (phew!, you say) but last week was a waste and would have been better flushed down the toilet (which we can do properly now, thanks to Mr Owl...ps no more about the poo pipes). I received this lovely package at my front door from a thoughtful friend. Thanks Sab! It had everything I needed plus more!
I had chocolate, different types of tea, girly magazines (yes!), bath bombs, chips and a lovely I am woman, hear me snore eye mask:))

I had to cancel my beloved market this week but received a couple of emails from people who went to the market specifically to find me as they wanted to buy something....so it wasn't all bad! I have a lot of new things happening at the moment including these pendants:

I have also been working on some pendants and rings that will include some more of my own sketches. I hope they turn out as I plan them to be......

Well, I hope this week is so much better than the last one! as one friend reminded me today,  I'm hoping to have the moves like Jagger....

Lip smacking balm- DIY tutorial

Today I had fun with my big girl making lip balm. I've had a bad health week and was feeling a little like this:
A stunned fish out of water with unusually large lips, yellow boggly eyes and red finns

So we decided to do something a bit fun and make some lip balm. I bought all of my ingredients from Auroma- a place that has supplied me lots of stuff for soapmaking.

 Here's what you need:

Sa-weet Almond Oil 7tsp

This says scorched almonds. Don't get excited- it's honey! 1 tsp

Bees wax- I hope the bees didn't mind 2 tsp

A fragance or flavouring oil. We used orange essential oil to avoid the chemicals 1/8 tsp

An eager 9 year old who inisted on wearing her masterchef gear

getting her cooking moves ready

An add for a magazine?
Melt the oil and beeswax together in a little pan over low heat until the beeswax is melted. Take off the stove and then add in your honey and whisk it together. When the mixture is nearly cool add in your flavour oil, mix it up again and then pour into your lip balm container. We actually used food colouring in ours- just a little....
Ta- daaaaaa..ready to be labelled and given away as pressie's
Have a lovely weekend everybody

attack of the birds part 2

Bird watching- I'm doing it all the time lately....

I have a list of shops that I go to whenever I feel the need to be inspired. One of these shops has a very talented, very knowledgeable lady, who bought some of my kooky things and inspired me immensely. There will be a blog post on her shop in the near future...it is amazing!

Today was Thursday, and yes, it was YUCKY! (for those of you that have just joined, read my other Thursday posts, you'll catch a general drift of my feeling towards it).

It's Funky Friday tomorrow. And here is a picture that made me giggle:

enjoy Friday:)

I am obsessed with birds. My new makings are full of them- vintage sketches, modern sketches, silhouettes, one legged (oddly enough, one of my sketches only has one leg- I only noticed this AFTER the piece was made)..and here is my new one:
A pendant that will have a chain on it someday.

Thanks for stopping by.
